The Opuke Thermal Pools and Spa story continues with the technology used to heat the pools. Engineering consultancy, BECA, was commissioned to identify a range of renewable and non-renewable energy options, including solar and groundwater heat pumps.
At night, pool water will be transferred to insulated holding tanks located in the basement of the main building to minimise heat loss. Excess solar energy collected on fine days will be stored in buffer tanks and electrically powered water to water heat pumps will leverage this stored energy make up any shortfalls in solar energy arising from weather events without compromising the integrity of our brand.
Whilst renewable energy solutions require higher initial capital investment they fully align with our brand promise and deliver substantial energy savings in the longer term.
